W&M's level of commitment extends to honoring each and every contract with its subcontractors and suppliers, not only because it is good business practice but also because clients benefit when subcontractors, in return, provide W&M and its clients with favorable pricing and performance.

W&M professionals never make promises they cannot keep. "We sometimes find it difficult, initially, to compete against others who oversell by making promises that they will never be able to deliver," said Thomas P. Durels, president. "We believe our clients need to know the truth and be informed about all aspects of their work, particularly cost and schedule. Eventually, all of our clients appreciate us more, and often call on us for repeat business."

With offices in Stamford and White Plains, W&M Construction's third party work has concentrated in Fairfield County, CT, Westchester County, NY and surrounding areas, though it has built projects for clients as far away as Virginia and Massachusetts. Its projects have been a diverse mix of office interiors, complete gut rehabilitation and redevelopment of existing buildings, showrooms, retail, hospitals, schools and YMCA's.

Cooper & Dunham's law offices on two floors are connected by a custom staircase. Visitors enter the 41,000 sq. ft. offices through a luxurious reception area built by W&M Construction.

Among its recent assignments have been a $4 million 60,000 sq.ft. renovation of Gartner's headquarters in Stamford; 135,000 sq.ft. build-out for Thomson's headquarters in Stamford; an expansion and renovation of the Wilton YMCA; 50,000 sq.ft. for Morre Corporation; gut rehab of the Cos Cob Firestation and a $7.5 million, 75,000-sq.-ft. installation for King & Spalding, a national law firm; and Greenwich Bank and Trust in Greenwich.

W&M Construction's clients have included Citicorp, Thomson, Allied Domcq, Charles Schwab & Co., Marsh & McLennan, Executive Health Group, Avis, Nestle, Hertz, Kaiser Permanente, National Reinsurance, Ralph Lauren Footwear, Time Publishing, Westpoint Pepperell, Ernst & Young, Equity Office Properties, Tishman Speyer Properties, and Phillip Morris.

W&M Construction's owner/operator management structure not only orchestrates and advances the construction process, but is also entirely proactively accountable to the client and communicates progress regularly and clearly to customers. The company's operations detect potential problems before they become major construction headaches and avoid surprises for its clients.
